One of them is getting married next year so perhaps they need somewhere to live and cant afford a mortgage or want a fully furnished pad.

Thanks re the line of accession. I wasn't sure.

Air Miles Andy.....he hadn't changed.

Yes Det, it would be William. He's 2nd in line to the throne, with his son George, 3rd.

It could happen. If the queen lives as long as her mother, she could outlive Charles.

The royal family should be streamlined.
I'm not a royalist as such, but I do believe the main ones work very hard.

I wouldn't trust Andrew further than I could throw him TBH. He has used and abused his royal title and I certainly do not want his daughters publicly funded for their frivolous lifestyles. Andrew has earned enough loot (on the side) and can support them if they won't support themselves.

Good question Det....I still think William

+++DetEcTive+++

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 24 Oct 2016 15:22

In recent years, there's been a move to restrict the number of 'Royals' who appear on Buck House balcony with the Queen. To me, the refusal to allocate Andrew's daughters a larger grace & favour apartment each, or to assign them 'duties', is only an extension of that.
Andrew's request could have been on a quid quo pro basis.

Out of interest, does anyone know what would happen to the line of accession if Charles dies before the Queen? Does William become heir apparent/Duke of Wales or does it go sideways to Andrew as the next eldest son?

I think your topic was bang on the mark, Barbra. Very topical indeed. :-D

Barbra

Barbra Report 24 Oct 2016 14:52

I have read on a thread that topics are slow moving that is the only reason I have put this on .I think the Queen has been a superb head & hard working all her life .but as someone has said to many hangers on .in the Royal family .Charles when & if he is King .& then William fair enough. I myself believe . condensing .& modernising the Royal House hold should be done for future generations Didn't mean to say anything about William rescue pilot to be honest didn't know he still did that & Harry with endless charity work good on them , when I read the news that Prince Charles Has said no to Andrews Daughters getting more work? that just upset me .Leave it there or now Barbra

I don't see Andrew or Edward doing much on the Royal Front, so why Andrew wants his daughters to be 'pushed forward' is beyond me.

I don't believe either Eugenie or Beatrice live in a bedsit - they don't pay rent, don't have children, so, no, they don't need a bigger apartment!!

As for William and Harry - they have more contact with 'normal' people than the whole of the Government does. William does a very important and responsible job, Harry does an awful lot for charities, and raising awareness of subjects our Government (both past & present) would rather ignore!!

I think Barbra missed out the ed of wanted.

Was said that the boards were slow and
no one was posting....I could be wrong.

JoyLouise Report 24 Oct 2016 13:38

I didn't spot another thread about the York sisters but in this respect I entirely agree with Prince Charles's decision.

I think it's about time they and their parents got out and worked for a living instead of swanning around pretending to be in employment.

Prince Charles is right and I think he's gauged the mood of the taxpayers correctly.

Island

Island Report 24 Oct 2016 13:04

Who wants a different thread? Have you added to mine?

My view is that the Andrews sisters should not be on the tax payers payroll. There's enough royals to swan about and open envelopes as it is.
I don't begrudge the direct line Queen > Charles > William but the others are unnecessary hangers-on.
