And to some of your points Guinevere the Catholic church and schools whilst not saying you should be punished per sa will not teach the children that abortion is good....also there are many extreme religious groups in America who will say Woman are second class citizens and are there for their husbands pleasure...these people voted don't forget.

Caroline

Caroline Report 11 Nov 2016 18:18

I'm neither supporting nor recommending those things Guinevere, nor am I saying there is any good in those examples.
I said there is some good in everyone not that those situations were good.
If you can't teach children to recognize there are good and bad points/sides then you are just spoon feeding your own views, again though that's not to be taken so literally that I think Hitler was a great guy for instances but if nothing else it helps to explain how Europe has to be aware of it's History.....people were feeling down trodden and had a depression they listened to the person that said what they wanted to hear........plus side Churchill was a great speaker and managed to say what was needed to get Britain through it's darkest hours.

"He can have nothing to do with any of his businesses when he becomes President."

not so easy as he may be answering charges of criminal fraud re Trump University during 2017.

thanks to changes made by the Republicans when they were after Bill Clinton beng a sitting president is no longer any protection.

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 11 Nov 2016 17:58

This is what you said, Caroline

"Teachers/parents whomever should have been giving examples of good and bad for all sides not just putting one person down........even though it's tempting to instill our own strongly held views on our kids."

I disagree that teachers should be expected to find any "good" in the two cases I outlined. There are others just as indefensible. Just because some citizens are racist, misogynistic and homophobic doesn't mean that teachers are obliged to give credence to their abhorrent views. They aren't and they shouldn't be.

Ah there you are Rollo ! :-)

Caroline

Caroline Report 11 Nov 2016 17:33

I'm sorry did I say I did think those things were acceptable ??
I think you're taking me way too literally !
I think you can find good in everyone it just takes an awful lot more looking for some.

That said....there are many people in America amongst other places, that do hold those views Guinevere so Trump was saying what they wanted to hear.....do I think it's right no of course not.

But today of all days we should be grateful that we all live in free countries where even the misinformed can hold their views.

Advocating sexual assault is not something one can be unbiased about. Neither is saying women should be punished for having abortions. I doubt any teacher would feel comfortable defending either, I know I wouldn't.

I would be furious with any teacher who tried to tell a child of mine that those things are ok.

Education is not filling empty buckets - it’s about lighting fires in the brain.

And teachers are expected to do their utmost towards fulfilling the students’ expectations.

Sylvia
I was not saying you were making an ill educated comment but taking acception at you saying people in some of these jobs were largely ill educated.

Yes I know many in these types of jobs past and present, and they can't get those jobs without their High school diploma min., most though have college or university degrees. Most have worked there for over twenty years and took the jobs when there was nothing in their field of education.

I also know a large number of highly educated people in for instance the teaching field, and they have spent their time in the classroom filling innocent young heads full of anti-Trump information without also covering Clinton and all her possible problems.

A person educational level doesn't always mean they make the most well thought out decisions....highly educated people think the sun shines out of Trump and some also think Clinton can do no wrong. Personally I think they both have their problems and it's sad there was no more worthy person available to lead the US.

I've not heard about that Guinevere.

Oh dear, reneging on his promises even before he's been 'crowned'. :-( He might have had the decency to wait until he had moved into the WH.

He may not be the man his fans thought he was and they might find they have a long four years or so ahead of them.

Sad innit, oh dear, never mind, gotta put up with it now folks. ;-)

Caroline .............

it was not an "ill educated comment" that I made regarding the men and women who were working in the industries that have been closed

Yes, there were educated people working there, but the majority had less than High School Graduation.

I've never accused you of ill educated remarks or response ........

....... I assume that you are speaking wih some knowledge of what you are saying.

Caroline

Guinevere......I think we can surely agree that not all supporters of Trump wanted to attack the White house. There were a few numpties in front of a camera....don't tar them all with the same brush.....some of them will be normal people who wanted a change.

Kay

He can have nothing to do with any of his businesses when he becomes President.

He has to remove himself from any and all contact with them and their operations ............... most Presidents do that by setting up Blind Trusts, run by trustees who communicate nothing to the person.

It has been suggested by some that Donald Jr will be in the White House helping father, and the other children will run the businesses

That might not be sufficient arms' length ............ not quite "pillow tlak" close, but close enough

Dick Cheney, Dubya's Vice-President, had some problems with his connections as Chairman of Haliburton Company
