Glad that you know she is safe, Ann

strange to say ..................

but New Zealanders are well used to earthquakes, as are all those who live on the Ring of Fire around the Pacific, including us.

We all know the precautions that we SHOULD be taking, even if we don't always have that earthquake kit fully stocked.

and yes, tourists are usually got out of the area as fast as possible, so they don't "clog up the works" :-D

Glad she's OK, it certainly is a worry when they are so far away.

If you want to know more about earthquakes in NZ take a look at this website:

http://www.geonet.org.nz/quakes/all

The page http://www.geonet.org.nz/quakes/statistics says they recorded 21,763 quakes last year!!!!

(I have family living just outside nelson in South Island)

Just 'spoken' on FB to her youngest son and he says he has just been talking to her as has his brother apparently. She is ok but rattled (their words). She is well able to cope with things, (she is 55 this week), but we Mums do worry.

She is at Haymer Springs North of Christchurch so pretty close. And near the coast as well. So hope they are safe from the Tsunami.

It's their night so hopefully sleeping. She's let you know she's safe and I'm sure she'll contact you soon. Not a good time to be holidaying there.

Let us know how she is when she contacts you. Not an easy time for you but we're here.

:-) <3

Yes, she says her party is all safe (she is with Saga, fifteen of them on a 3-4 week trip) It was the middle of the night when she sent the email and I haven't heard any more.

When your daughter is in South Island New Zealand.

"I don't know how fast news travels, but we have had an earthquake. We are all fine, but have evacuated out of the hotel for a while in case of aftershocks "

Well at least I didn't have to see it on TV first!!
