I fail to see how, if a CRB (as was)/DBS was 'leaked' this would cause a problem for voluntary agencies.
Anyone working/volunteering with vulnerable people has to have a check.
If a volunteer knows there is a conviction against them, why would they attempt to work with the vulnerable?

My sister used to help run a Youth Club.
People were taken on, on 3 months probation.
One new volunteer had a 'habit' of taking a group of children to a corner and talking to them. This isn't the idea of the Youth Club, it's for the children to interact with each other, also, my sister thought it a bit strange, as he did it from the start, and she noticed it was the same children.
I went with her to the Club one evening, and innocently asked my sister who the overenthusiastic creep was.
My sister had a word with the volunteer, who declared he was just 'being mates'. She explained this wasn't his job. He was insistent - he was 'released'.
Transpired, he was encouraging the children to meet him after school.
He had a clear DBS - it may have been innocent - but he was creepy.

CRB checks dont exsist now. and any employer will know this.!,,,,,of which they were two.and the employer as now is not the recipient of the outcome.the person is themselves.

Its now a umberella of .

DBS, =Disclosure and Barring Service.sadly the issued certificate of both past and current do not expire.

The only time things could come to light is each and everytime a new employer requests an up-dated report if the last one is over a year old.

I am a guider with Rainbows (5-7) and Brownies (7-10) and so like every adult working with young people I have had more than one CRB check done over the years. The parents drop them off every week and pick them up 90 minutes later. Most of my Brownies parents see us as little more than a babysitting service and trust us to take the girls anywhere.

Children have to be taught by their parents what's right and what's not from an early age as a CRB check only shows your criminal history up to the time of the check.

What a relief! No mention here yet of any paedophile Catholic priests involvement.

Around a third of British men have a criminal record including "spent" convictions. Very few of these are for sexual offences. Unfortunately CRB checks carried out for volunteer work have a tendency to leak causing all kinds of trouble. As a direct result volunteer organisations are finding it hard to recruit.

As Guinevere says common sense and advice to children will go a long way esp as those with evil intent are extremely good at covering their tracks. Creating an atmosphere of universal suspicion is not the way to go.

As an employer we cannot wait for the outcome of checks it takes ages. When a CRB does reveal an offence we usually disregard it depending on age of offence, relevance to the job and so on. We did have a guy who was on the so list who has left. He was no problem and his work fine. However the necessary monitoring was a royal pain and I would not want a repeat.

The world is not whiter than white and trying to make it so has always resulted in sorrow. Hysteria is easy to whip up, not so easy to wind down. Those who wish for a "hang 'em high" / "throw away the key" and other such extreme measures need to spend a little while working out what sort of human being they think they are.

Well done those standing up to be counted to stop the abuse they had to put up with carrying on.

A well done to the England Captain, Wayne Rooney, speaking up and commending those who have spoken out.

The best thing to do is warn children that not all adults can be trusted.

Talk to them about the underwear rule

and tell them that no adult has a right to ask them to keep secrets.

It's difficult to keep a check on kids. My youngest, 40 now, was into football, cubs & other sports. Never gave it another thought, used to drop him off & pick him up. You always put your trust in these people. No police checks in those days. I have tremendous respect for the ones that are speaking out now & hope others will have the courage to do so. Same ole, same ole, the children are threatened about things that will happen, I know from a family incident. That still goes on today so they keep quiet. Think this will be big what is going on now.

All a CRB does, is check whether a person has been convicted of abuse/wrongful behaviour. If they've never been caught - they will pass.

having watched another interview with footballers who were abused by their coach - he's now banged up for the third time - I would urge any parent who have children enrolled in groups - any groups, scouts, army cadets, any sporting clubs, to keep a close eye on what's going on - these monsters lurk in such places and take advantage of innocent children - I speak from bitter experience
