charity instead of cards

I have no objection if people decide to give to charity instead of sending cards. But I find it slightly irritating when they announce it after the beginning of December when many people, including me, have already sent their cards out. If they wish to give to charity fine but if I know that is what they want I am happy to donate the card cost and postage for their card to charity as well. (incidentally I send cards and donate to charity but that is my choice. I just love sending and receiving cards.)
