All good wishes. One of my cousins was in this position, her Doctor signed her off sick, and she was off work with full pay.

Hope all goes well for your daughter and next year brings the all-clear for her. Has she asked about the cold-cap to use during treatment to try and lessen hair loss? There are heart shaped cushions you can make to hold between her op site and arm, often MacMillan people have them available, made by volunteers.
I think I have the instructions somewhere if you can't teack themdown.

Sending you all strength at this difficult time

Lizx

P.s. google heart cushions for cancer sufferers and you will see many sites about them. One from Norfolk Quilters shows how to make them

P.s.

Normally we'd suggest that she contacts the Citizen's Advice Bureau. However, given the circumstances, her contact at MacMillan could probably liase with employment law experts on her behalf. They may also be able to put her in contact with charities or help with Benefit claims if the loss of her earnings is causing financial problems

Scanning the following - https://www.lawontheweb.co.uk/personal/sick-leave - its possible that they have paid her the Statutory Sick Pay which they are legally obliged to do.

"Your employer should give you Statutory Sick Pay if you are classed as an employee, have reported for duty at least once, and have average pre-tax weekly earnings not less than the Lower Earnings Limit of £112 per week.....The rate of Statutory Sick Pay is currently £88.45 per week for a maximum of 28 weeks in any period of sickness."

There's a further paragraph about Company sick pay schemes.

No idea how she stands for pay on Treatment & recovery days. Some employers would treat it as a sick day, others (regardless of the cause) would say either that she should arrange it for a rotaed day off, or take time off with no pay/as holiday leave. It should be set out in her Contract of Employment, if she has one.

fingers and toes crossed for you daughter Phyll - they seem to do amazing things these days <3 <3 <3 <3

What a rotten company she works for - does she not have a union?

Phyll

Phyll Report 7 Dec 2016 20:43

Thank you all so much for your kind comments. I wish that the firm she works for would be as nice. They stopped her £400 out of her wages for the time taken for the operation and time off afterwards. They have now told her they won't pay her for any time taken for Chemo or the Radiotherapy..

She doesn't know who to turn to for advice apart from MacMillan Nurses.
Has anyone else had experience of this?

My Daughter has had her operation to remove the lump in her breast and 4 lymph nodes. She will start Chemo in 2 weeks time (4 sessions over a 12 week period followed by 3 x 5 day sessions of radiotherapy. So by June 2017 we may get the words we want to hear - All clear, hopefully.

Thank you for your prayers & good wishes.
