99.9% of the time anything that is not addressed to you personally by the name the the company knows you by is a scam. Dear Customer, dear account@hotmail, dear Valued User, etc.

As as is anything that claims there is unusual activity detected, asks for missing information or purports to be upgrading your account. I have had a bank account for over fifty years and not once has is been 'upgraded'.

Paypal, however, do send you emails each time you make a payment through them - I use Pay after Delivery when I can, and usually get three emails. The first on the day of purchase, the second a few days before the payment is due and the third on the day the money is claimed.

1) Receipt for your ABC Ltd purchase — your payment has been scheduled

2) Remember: We'll be processing the payment for your ABC Ltd purchase soon

3) We're processing the payment for your ABC Ltd purchase

Each month I receive an email headed up "Review Your Recent Transactions Now"

I have also got the one Inky mentions about 10 days ago. At first sight it looks the part but on closer examination is clearly a spoof.

The other thing you can do to check authenticity is to hover - but don't Click under any circumstances - over any links and look at the url which shows at the bottom of your screen. The non-genuine ones are pretty obvious.

We've had several from Paypal and all get deleted. Most of them just don't make sense in relation to our account.

We've also had them from banks, both ours and ones we have never used. The only genuine one had at the bottom - please contact us using the details at the top of your bank statement.

I tend to be sceptical - nothing is genuine unless I can prove it to my satisfaction.

I had that one the other day Inky1 and deleted it. It's the first one that I've had purporting to be Paypal.

I've also had ones in the last couple of weeks saying they are from various banks with a link to click on, even one supposedly from the Queen's bank. All were deleted. I'm sure if something was genuine they would try phoning (in which case I would phone back using a public number, not one they gave me.)

24hrs later I have worked out it the link you need to click for help, because you didn´t order this stuff, that maybe has a virus.
They don´t know your account, they know nothing and chances are the receiver is a dodgy account ...you can check this at Valyds.com
