Hello Harry,

Good wishes for this new year ahead.

That poem is wonderful, so moving, what a kind, imaginative man Bill was to encourage John to fight back from ill health. I don't think John would have been disappointed when he saw the actual view, he would have been thankful for such a kind companion.

Thank you Harry. I also have heard a similar version of this inspiring story.

It would be good to think that John passed on Bill's views of life to others in hospital.
"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" springs to mind.

Keep the poems coming Harry and a very Happy New Year to you xx

I like nice poems and this my version of an old story of which
few will have heard.

THE VIEW FROM THE HOSPITAL WARD.

Bill was in hospital,
Sadly, terminally ill;
He had the view from the window,
And much daily time to fill.

In the next bed, John lay prone,
All movement was denied;
But his friend detailed a picture,
Of the world he saw outside.

A pond with ducks and ducklings,
Happy family throwing bread;
Child eating what was for the birds -
He guessed what mother said.

Next day, home made sailing boats,
And children having fun;
Some just wearing underpants,
In tribute to the sun.

Flowers and plants 'a plenty,
Snow topped mountains far away;
Sadly things weren't meant to last,
And God took Bill away.

John's condition much improved,
And he moved to the window bed;
Alas there was no wondrous scene,
Just a line of bins instead.
