As you can see from the 1939 register the father was William

It ties with the marriage and the facts recorded against Edith that she had two more marriages to Riley and Longstaff

William seems to have added John as his first name at some time . Maybe he preferred to be called John rather than William

People do get known as other names from what they were reg as .

My mother in law was always know as Pat .i though she was a Patricia and that put me off track for a while . My hubby only had a short version of his birth cert so that didn't help
Nope she was Ellen but the family called her Pat because she was in the same household as an aunt Ellen . As her father's side was Irish she aquired the femine version of Patrick!!!

So seems whoever gave the details for Williams death cert thought he was a John William

Thanks for the replies. Pauline's father my grandfather, was also called John. Her mother married 2 more times. one to John Longstaff and then to Albert Riley. She died in 1981.

Please can anyone help? I am trying to trace my aunt her given name was Pauline McManus. She was born in 1949 to John and Edith McManus. In watford. She went to legatts way school in watford. My father last saw her about 1958. I have made use of ancestry sites and electoral roll but to no avail. I would welcome any information. Thanks

Tricky. There's 11 marriages of this name but without further clues it could be any or none of them. None are in Watford so she either moved or stayed single.
There is no death record up to 2005.

Can anyone help in finding my Aunt? She was born Pauline McManus in March 1949 in Watford to John and Edith McManus. she has brother William and had a sister Dorothy. She was bought up by her father when mother left home. Her father died in 1968. We don't know what happened to her after that.
Update. I have now found her! living happily in Australia Love her already
