I bought 2 brand new dining chairs that had got stained in storage for £3 each in a charity shop last year.

They cleaned up immaculately!

My OH bought 4 second hand dining room chairs for 10pence each circa 1972.

They've been painted then stripped and are still going strong :-D

Pure fluke, Joy, but I'm looking at the other 800+ books I have, and summoning up the courage to use e-bay.

I bought a picture of Montmatre at a jumble sale about 25+ years ago, for £2,50. I was interested in the frame.
I never did anything about it, then about 10 years ago, clearing out the attic, I found it again.
I noticed the signature, looked it up - it's by LeForrestiere, and worth in excess of £250! :-D

About 3 years ago, for 50p, I bought a book at a village fair.
It's by the man who was the artist for 'Vogue' sewing patterns, and worth about £150.
Not bad for two random buys - and there are others! :-D :-D

Chris,
Your sofas will probably last another 10yrs.

Our current 14yr old ones also came from M&S ( Abbey)

They are still in v, good condition and British Heart Foundation is taking them off our hands.

Also forgot to add that we paid for the new sofas by M&S credit card.

Once the bill was paid, we received our M&S vouchers ( for 1% of total)

Mine was a mirror when we lived in France. Went into a furniture shop that we liked to just look around. Was an expensive shop so just liked looking. There was a sale on. I spotted 2 mirrors, lovely ones with wooden surround, 1 was smaller than the other. It was supposed to be 50% off. Spotted the sale ticket on the larger 1 & it said 50 euros. The smaller 1 was way above that price in the sale so I asked a sales lady in the shop & asked if that price was right. 3 times she said it was before it clicked with her that someone had put the sale price up at 50 euros instead of 50% off. She took the ticket off & went away, about 10mins. later she came back & told us we could have it for 50 euros. We did'nt really need a mirror but could'nt not buy it at that price. We could'nt have afforded it at the sale price but can't resist a bargain.

A skirt I bought at a jumble sale.

Paid 10p and it turned out to be a designer number, the then current range, that I would have paid over £700 for :-0

Some people obviously have more money than they know what to do with :-S

I can't beat a tin bucket but, I got a bargain recently.

My current leather sofas are nearly 14 yrs old and I'm sick of looking at them.

I really wanted new ones, but the ones I really wanted were far too expensive and I couldn't justify a price tag of almost £6000 for 2 sofas. Yikes!

I had a back up option.
M&S had some that I thought would be suitable.

They were on offer at 20% discount.
However, on Black Friday weekend, they were reduced by a further 20%

My youngest daughter was working in M&S and she was entitled to yet another 20% on top again

Being delivered on Tuesday are 1 extra large sofa. 1 large sofa & 1 large footstool.

Total price came to the same as the current full price of ONE large sofa !

They won't last 14 yrs but they were my bargain
