Ann ,,this one was different as it wasn't a telephone one and it was just a chatty messenger one, like I do have with other friends and family from time to time.My grandchildren very often send a message like that saying how are you?,so at first I took it that he wanted to send a private message about where I knew he'd been on holiday,so naturally I replied.it wasn't a voice one, just text on messenger.

I am very wary on calls etc,but this started off so genuine until I was told that my name was on a list where I could claim some money...that sent alarm bells ringing and why I alerted him to it so he could do something...other friends may have just ignored it,or deleted, but I knew I had to warn him before others were affected and he could get rid of his fake account.

I know there is a new phone scam that they are copying your voice and saying ....Can you hear me? ..and when you answer they record your reply....it's a scary world these days!

The sad thing is, these people are still making money out of these scams because there are still people that believe them. :-(

The Bank of Montreal always want to up date my account. Seeing as I don't have a account with them, I think they might have trouble with that.

ITunes is another one, which almost got me going. until I talked to my brother and he showed me that it was a scam.

Ohhhhhh goody I just won 10000 dollars again! What should I do with it????

Anything that addresses me as...

Dear Member
Dear Client
Dear [email protected]
Or no salutation at all

Immediately makes me suspicious and have always turned out to be a scam.

Don't start me on the bad English, bad spelling and the other ones that look like screenshots that have been photo shopped!

The PayPal ones drive me mad! They are in my inbox and in junk on a daily basis
:-(

It IS convincing - correct spelling etc, but it's like your bank asking you how much you've taken out of you bank this week. :-S

If they (allegedly) don't know about your latest transactions using Paypal - there's something wrong!!

If it isn't spam, I'm sure Paypal will let you know. :-D :-D

My Facebook account was hacked .they even copied my profile picture although I am told it was a bit skew whiff

Lots of family , friends etc got messaages from me asking to be a friend which raised ????? What ?????reactions as we are already "friends"
They then started to talk about money

They were twigged straight away and I got messages asking me if there was a problem with my account.lots of warning posts too that aunties /nan account has been hacked
I couldn't see the fake account so guess they had blocked me when they set it up

The fake account was quickly blocked and removed by Facebook

Thank goodness I have very savvy family on Facebook so no one was scammed

BrendafromWales

BrendafromWales Report 4 Feb 2017 15:21

..you may have heard of this, but this did not appear as a scam.

One of my friends on FB sent me a message on messenger.saying hi Brenda. How are you?
I hadn't heard from him for a long time except for remarks on posts on FB...so I answered Hi I'm Ok how are you both?

General chit chatI got ..have you heard about Carl Zuckerbergs latest news? I said no....then.....you are in line to get a reward!.I immediately got suspicious and I said I had to go out as I had to go for blood test, which was true.

He then said ...I got my reward straight to my doorstep.and it sounded wrong then he put...have a great day..which seemed not the sort of thing my friend would say.
When I came back I looked up friends profile and there was his picture, but no content.

I rang and told him as some of his other friends could have been taken in,so he posted a warning on FB .they had copied his profile and so when he looked he had 2 accounts which he cancelled the fake one.

This man had been a friend of my late husband and had been a Metropolitan police commander,so maybe he was chosen as someone who people would trust and believe that he was genuine..

You have to be so careful so I thought I'd post this in case anyone else got taken in.Good job I was wary.It was the way it was just chatty to start with!

What it did do ...I had a lovely chat on the phone with him and caught up with his news and he with mine!
