INSULTED BY TALKTALK?

Wow!

At 8.37am today I received a phone call from a Talktalk representative, ringing me from 00441403464021.

It obviously was not good enough to wake me but a woman, whose name I did not catch but whose first language, I would guess, is not English was not happy with my response. I said 'Hello' a few times - as I do when I do not want to speak to someone so early in the morning - especially since I have been with Talktalk for several years and I am happy with the package I have just negotiated.

She gave up but her parting shot was 'Get lost bitch.'

Never one to be lost for words, I replied 'Get lost bitch you' and she hung up before I got all the words out, I think.

I wish I could have thought something more cutting on the spur of the moment but it was before I'd had my second cup of coffee to wake me up properly.

I am going to write snail mail to Southampton to complain - it'll be the first for me.

Just googled the number you quoted but it comes up with nothing. Wonder if it really was a TT rep on the other end or another scam.

Either way it is certainly worth reporting.

I use this site - added your number:-

http://who-called.co.uk/Number/01403464021

Selection of responses with similar/other numbers:-

01403464023
Claimed to be phoning from TalkTalk. Seemed unable to tell me why he had phoned me - I didn't even manage to get round to telling him I wasn't with TalkTalk. . Seemed to find saying "yes" very funny. I rang off - just a time waster
01403464123
I phoned the number back only to get automated call saying the number you have called can't be recognised.
01403464683
rang twice no one there tried to call back and the number dosn't exist
01403460836
Another TalkTalk scammer number averaging four per day at the moment either "out of area" or spurious random numbers. Very annoying when waiting for a call.
01404926422
Claimed to be from TalkTalk with errors monitored on my line over the last few months. Asked for my TalkTalk account number before going further. They reeled off an account number which may / may not have been mine. This number indicates from Honiton in Devon where no TalkTalk technical team resides - as far I am aware. A scam trying to get remote access to your computer from a spoof number!!
01403461990
This number stated they were from talk talk and suspect they were scammers
01403462730
Talk talk scammers. Fourth call today this from a different number
01403461730
Talk talk scammers trying to get access to your computer

These types of call may not even be from within the UK.

In particular, look down to the section headed "Technology and methods"

Even when TT had tech and security issues putting their support staff under a lot of stress I never had anything but courtesy from them in relation to my mothers account. Unless you need superfast 100, which only Virgin has, TT are best value all in one package.

JoyLouise

JoyLouise Report 2 Mar 2017 12:31

I agree, Rollo, they have always been courteous on the handful of occasions I have had to speak with someone.

I have been with them years and never had a problem and I got a really good deal from them about a month ago. I ought to have realised it was not Talktalk this morning.

I did ring their London number and a very nice young lady told me that she thought it had been a hacking attempt. I think, therefore, I won't waste my time writing.

Contrary Mary

Contrary Mary Report 2 Mar 2017 14:30

It's a scam - had a call from (allegedly) Talktalk - even used my surname - but it's not their tech department. And the number is an overseas one (starts with 00).

If you ring Talktalk and report it they will get the number blocked from their call network, (yeah I know, the scammers will just get another number to use but it stops them for a while).

And just a note for anyone (maybe not so pc savvy) reading your thread - don't EVER, no matter how convincing they sound, go on to your computer so that they "can show you what the problem is and fix it"

Been with TT for years. We are always getting calls from them. Mostly can't understand them & can't hear them for the background noise. Always telling us we have been hacked, want us to go to the computer. As soon as I say hello & no one answers straight away I know it is them. It is really annoying. Just press the red button now.

I'm with Talk Talk - and these cold callers aren't.

I just tell them (when they deign to speak):
a) I'm not with 'them' - who are 'Talk Talk'?
b) I haven't got a computer.

No point in telling them I'm on TPS - they're operating under a false name.

If I have the time/inclination, I send an e-mail to Talk Talk, giving them the phone number.

Nolls from Harrogate Report 3 Mar 2017 18:15

I too had a call from "Talktalk" hmm! so thought I would play him along, when he said to go to the comp. I said hold on while I switch on......left the phone of the hook (completely forgot) and about an hr later saw it was off, lifted and could hear same person talking to (sounded elderly) person saying "That's right now press key at bottom right hand corner" whereupon I shouted through "It's a scam" all I heard "OH Dear" and a phone being put down. The caller was shouting frantically where are you sir come back !!!! I then put the phone down. How I managed to get on to the same line is a mystery but glad I did. Have done it again since but all I got was a dead line.

Well, they've tried again!

After last week's attempt, OH and I changed our cards with our banks just as a precaution.

However, this morning there were two emails in my box saying that they were going to cut me off on 8 March as my payment had not gone through. To prevent being cut off I had to contact them (they gave a site) with payment.

I rang the bank who said it had gone through and had not been returned.

I then rang TalkTalk who checked and, yes, they had received payment. The young lady asked me to click on the Sender name and what came up was gobbledegook ending with 'cactus something'. The emails pictured Talktalk logo and address etc exactly but they were not from TT.

I have heard from a friend who is with BT that they have tried the same thing with her and her OH took the same action that I took, including changing bank cards.

She and I were lucky but could easily have compromised our security by saying 'yes' to the first caller who would then have a voice record agreeing to anything (The one who told me to 'Get lost Bitch.')

They appear to be,playing bad cop, good cop at the moment, apparently.

Dtr says I ought to contact the Fraud Office and I told TT that I would wait to hear the result of their investigation. If they don't let me know within a couple of weeks, I shall get in touch with the FO.

Watch out because they are trying all providers.

....times like this, I'm glad I don't do online banking - and shall tell them so if they ever call again - so far, every time, I've told them I don't have a computer and the calls appear to have stopped. :-D

A related topic is published in today's Times newspaper concerning the same organisation being 'run by professional fraudsters'.

Well worth a read.
