The transcriptions are done on contract by a Chinese company many of the transcribers have v basic English. A lady in my tree Freckingham was down as Fuc-ingham for years before Genes changed it. There is a method to update spellings on the trans pages. Other users can see these corrections. They are incorporated into the indices but Genes are v reluctant to update the original record.

The best approach when searching is not to make yr terms too restrictive. Also allow for the original record having errors - they are common.

The Fmp trans are not the same as those of Genes.

Genes don't transcribe the records they take them from FMP I think ,they are owned by the same company

In researching this Census, and relatives and neighbours, I have discovered quite a number of Transcription errors from the original records. These are obvious errors, not a question of trying to decipher handwriting. These are clearly just bad transcriptions. In addition, in trying to search a number of the original entries, quite a few of the entries, such as name searches, do not find the entry on the transcriptions or provide a result.
How do we go about alerting Genes to this matter, and possibly have a review undertaken, with a view to determining the accuracy of the transcriber generally?
Very frustrated at not finding records which should be there.
Thank you.
