You may well be right Sylvia. If I remember correctly it used to be that you clicked on the image on the row you were interested in and the Index would appear centred on that row.

Thank you Mr Magoo!!

KenSE .............

I don't think it has been there for very long. I saw it for the first time over the weekend and wondered vaguely what it was for, but I didn't hover the mouse over it ............. if I had done that, I would have seen "Show Index"!!!

I think it started with the 1911 census and was later extended to the other censuses.
Not sure when the two head icon appeared though.

Thank you so much, Mr. M. I've been using census info on Ancestry for years and never realized that you could do that.

I am surprised that not many people knew that. It is most useful for submitting amendments to poor transcriptions - just double click on the incorrect field. The film icon is useful for reading adjacent pages in the census.

Well i never!

It makes it so much easier to C&P the household members from there, which include's their places of birth.........rather than having to check back on the image, and then type out all their details individually.

Thank you Mr Magoo. :-)

On Ancestry when you look at a census image at the bottom of the screen there is a page number.
To left is film number but to right there are two heads. If you click on that a transcription will appear of all the names on that census page and places of birth.

This might be helpful in reading awkward names.

Hope this helps :-) :-)
