I am searching for the death record for my brother in law who died in January 2017.

It does not seem to be listed . is that correct ? is there a time lag between the records being listed and the event?

Thanks any comments appreciated

Welcome to the boards James.

Death records online only go up until about 2007 (at least they do on Findmypast). I think you would have to go to the General Record Office in Salford or to the register office where the death was registered to find such recent details.

It'll take at least a couple of years before it's online. Ancestry has 2014 or 15 as it's latest deaths. I don't know about on here.

The ones post 2006 on Ancestry aren't from the GRO. They seemed to be culled from a variety of sources such as local papers etc.

The death reg will eventually make its way onto the GRO indexes, but as there are no current plans to digitalise them, you'd need to visit one of the few places which hold the more recent indexes. It would be wise to check with them what the most recent records are.
