I am type 2 and use a FreeStyle Lite blood glucose monitor which can be used on the following areas: calf, thighs, most parts of the hands including fingertips, forearm and upper arm

The girl in this photo is not using an insulin pen.

It's a lancet .
Used on the fingertips to produce small blood samples for glucose testing.
