One of my colleagues, Thamir, is a fairly conservative Muslim. He does not seem to have a problem with a pint of beer or a megafest of Easter eggs for his grandkids though.

Back in the C19 one of my rellies was a cofe bishop. He was very opposed to what he saw as pagan celebratons at Christmas and Easter.

Much binding in the marsh.

And the fact is online they at first dropped the word Easter. I can't say what local properties did on their own.
You are being confrontational and trying to start an argument.
I started a thread asking what people thought as it seems this was happening, as I like the Press were looking at their original online adverts which have now been changed.
Quite why you're getting so upset over this I can not say. Do you work for the National Trust as you seem to know a lot about this situation?

It's not confrontational to ask a question, surely?

It's more confrontational to refuse to answer. If you introduce a topic and get some facts wrong then expect to be challenged.

No one (not even those of other religions - which is what I suspect you were getting at) has complained about the word Easter being used in relation to the NT hunts. It's not a question of disagreeing it's a matter of fact.

Guinevere not sure why you're always being so confrontational with me. If you don't like any comment I make then don't read them simple.
Other never answer any questions ever and yet you're not on here trying to start something.

As I said earlier agree to disagree.

We have been to 3 NT places this week and the word Easter is mentioned in all of them. Their hunts (not just Easter Egg) are all through the children's Easter holidays as far a I can see, all sorts, the one on Sunday was a hunt for letters to make a word, we watched them doing it, they had great fun and were learning about the garden as they did it. So maybe they had dropped the word Easter as they were not all actually at Easter. :-)

You are the only one who is implying it might upset someone.

Nobody has said they are upset. Who do you think it will upset?

Simple question, not sure why you won't answer it.

What the heck lets all just eat far too much chocolate and be done with it, and hard luck if that upsets anyone :-P

It is - near to the Winter Solstice.

Caroline

Caroline Report 5 Apr 2017 01:12

Good point :-D ....Like I said I agree it was pagan first but if it's good enough for the church....as is Christmas also on a pagan day.

maggiewinchester Report 5 Apr 2017 01:10

Well, as my daughter said on FB , 'Christians taking over a pagan festival, then complaining about it!!'

Easter is the pagan festival of Eastra, the goddess of spring, in whose honour sacrifices were offered in Spring (about Passover time in the Christian calendar)

But which came first?

Was the Christian Festival being 'dissed' or the Pagan one?

Caroline

Caroline Report 4 Apr 2017 22:34

Yes and prior to this hitting the papers it just said egg hunt.

We'll have to agree to disagree but they did drop it/not add it/added it later

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/04/04/national-trust-backs-adding-easter-website-heading/

Not sure why you're being so confrontational over this.

As a Christian, I find it strange they dropped it.

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 4 Apr 2017 21:58

They didn't drop it. The word Easter is all over the NT and the Cadbury websites and always was - just not on the eggs this year. No big deal. The sponsors wanted their name to be bigger on the eggs, I imagine.

So it wasn't dropped, apart from on the wrapping.

Who did you think would be upset? You didn't answer me.

Caroline

Caroline Report 4 Apr 2017 21:46

They didn't get it wrong the NT have admitted they dropped it and have replaced it.

Why do you think they dropped it in the first place?

It's taken place on Easter weekend, when we traditionally hunt for easter eggs.

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 4 Apr 2017 21:41

What made you think it was to avoid upsetting someone? Who did you think would be upset?

The Bishop and the press got it wrong, not for the first time. Very silly.

Caroline

Caroline Report 4 Apr 2017 21:23

Hmm...by the National Trust own admittance on their website...they did drop the word Easter but have now added it back...and with a video it's possibly quicker/cheaper to add a word to the voice over rather than change the pictures.

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 4 Apr 2017 21:17

So what? It's introduced with the words "This Easter ..." fairly clear what they mean.

Easter fun -

No one is getting rid of Easter. Ridiculous.

Granted but the church follows it so good enough for me.

Easter is (or was) basically a pagan festival anyway...
