I also think every child deserves the best Childhood possible
why should some nut Rob them of this

There's Plenty of disused oil rigs in the North sea
Shove them on there with a fishing rod and a water purifying kit
and leave them all there forever

I think everybody's server provider
Should monitor the usages of their clients
and flag sites containing this sort of things

Then report them to the Police :-( :-(

A true case of ignorance is bliss, we all know in theory there is one living now near all of us but once you know it's totally different....

I personally think No too
I would not want anybody like that living anywhere near me or my family

But their again I've been told every street has at least one
Thankfully If there's any on our road I don't know them :-D

No but looking should be treated as a mental health issue. Prison is expensive, pointless it just makes things worse. The authorities must monitor and track them on a permanent basis.

It is far harder to block this sort of thing out of computer networks than our luddite politicians seem to think. A mass switchover to ipv6 would def kill off a lot of scams and kiddie porn. It would also break govt snooping in UK, Oz

By their actions ye shall know them.

In the sense that those who are able to realise that what they have done is wrong, they can then seek help/strategies not do it again. Sublimation of natural instinct in effect, I wouldn't say that is impossible in some cases.

It may be that reports are up 80% for various reasons, ie following on from Yewtree, the various investigations into children's homes etc more people are coming forward than previously.

There was a recent case not far from here " X had started by looking at normal adult pornography sites and got talking to other users and they started to share images....distribution was the more serious offence as “making” did not mean production, but rather downloading of both still and moving images."

He apparently had already put himself on a sex offenders’ course before the case came to court, and admitted he had a problem. Everyone knows where he lives, presumably one step out of line and it will be known about.

If as in this case it's a step on from 'normal' porn to other types, is that not similar to drugs?...some people can stop at cannabis, never deal, never take more, some have to go on to something harder to get the same effect.

Whether they go to prison or not, you would hope rehabilitation would be available, otherwise at the end of a prison sentence there is not likely to be any change is there? The police will know, but probably no one else will be aware who they are living next door to,since these people don't come with horns and a tail there is no way of knowing...it could be your new neighbour.

I suppose, in a broad sense, if you look at it as a form of mental health problem; is there not always a chance that something will 'kick off' their need to give in to their urges? I don't think any of us are qualified to say. I am not sure that I would be willing to take the risk of having them living near children. Which is also a worry when they are placed in the community and the community don't know. And I do realise that they would be in danger if some members of the community knew. A difficult question Joy.

I think there are probably many living next door to children but are no threat at all. It is just a thing they have, that they know is not right and which they control.

It is only like me wanting very badly too set about one of my neighbour's daughters with a bit of 4x2 but I don't because it is just wrong.

Caroline Report 21 Apr 2017 15:00

Agreed, not a choice but wouldn't want one next to youngsters.....and yes I know many are never known to us you'd hardly shout it from the rooftops. Hopefully one day someone will find a solid way of "reforming" them but right now....

Sharron Report 21 Apr 2017 14:56

There are many paedophiles who recognize their predeliction as abhorrent and deliberately do not give in to it. They do not choose to be born that way.

The real crime in viewing child porn is not in the viewing but in the filming which can only be contrived by exploitation and cruelty, as, quite often, is adult porn. Viewing is supporting those who support the films.

Caroline Report 21 Apr 2017 14:38

No, who would want to risk their child/Grandchildren living next door to a maybe reformed one ?

DO YOU THINK PAEDOPHILES CAN EVER BE REHABILITATED?
Leading child protection police officer Chief Constable Simon Bailey has said paedophiles who view indecent images but go no further should not be jailed but rehabilitated.
Figures show the number of child abuse reports is up by 80% in three years. The Home Office said 'viewing child abuse images is a terrible crime and should be treated as such'.
Do you believe paedophiles can ever be rehabilitated?
