I will take her more often, might not have to buy any shopping at all.

When you can't get somewhere, especially when the need is for a pet rather than yourself, then a gesture which seems small to the giver takes on a much bigger significance. :-)

It's nice that she obviously appreciated your help, granted way too much thanks but it meant a lot to her and her hungry dog.

On Thursday, when I picked up one of our old biddies to go to the parish lunch, she told me she had not been able to get into town to get any dog meat and asked if I knew whether the garage sold it

Well, I didn't, but, because I had nothing to do urgently, after lunch, I took her to a Co-Op outside Bognor. She is not hard up, lives in her own yard, but I had used a teaspoon of diesel and she wanted to pay me.

It was not necessary but the Co-Op usually has some decent little pieces of cheese so I suggested she get me one, blue if possible. She looked at the half pound pack on the poster and asked if that was what I wanted but I said I would prefer blue and not a big piece like that anyway.

Thinking a piece of cheese was really far too much, I changed my mind and suggested she get a packet of Twiglets.

The Co-Op didn't have Twiglets so the daft old bat came out with a packet of Doritos, one of the half pound lumps of extra mature Cheddar AND a piece of Sainte Augure, which is French so, although they don't know how to make cheese, it is palateable.

All that, an embarrassment of riches, for a tiny bit of derv and half an hour of my time.
