While making a road through a university in Mississippi workmen came across several graves. Using X ray devices a further 7000 were detected.

The university is built on top of a former asylum :-0

I read the asylum cost $175000.00 to build. To exhume the 7000 will cost $3000 each.
To reinter them as much again.

The asylum didn't keep records or the university would have been built elsewhere

Looks like they've been finding bodies for a few years David. Sad to think that many people had unknown graves.

In the period covered there was a Civil War, many might be slaves.

Elsewhere, have a scratch around amateur historian Catherine Corless & her awful findings in a Cesspit at a Convent in Tuam, Co Galway, Ireland - a horrific & inhuman disposal of dead infants.

well, don't forget that very recently they unearthed graves from Bedlam in London ............
and there are no records for them

or the graves in Ireland of the babies in the laundries

no records for them

so it's nothing new.

Not too sure why you posted this one .....................

I posted the 7000 because I saw no other thread mentioning it.
