By far the best free software for FH is GRAMPS.

I use Heritage.

If I can use it, it will be pretty straightforward.

I have used several different ones over the years

My favorite has to be Roots Magic - easy to use and has a lot of features including - ON THE GO - so you can plug your tree in anywhere (thats safe) and use it

Worth every penny and so easy OH loves using it & he is not a big fan of computer programs with symbols - he prefers word lists - this has both

I have also heard that Treeview is very good too

Many people will find the free version of rootsmagic perfectly adequate for their needs. It is a great program but it is difficult to see the added value in the paid for version compared to Gramps which is free with excellent user support.

RootsMagic does integrate v well with LDS/familysearch but that tends not to be a big thing with UK users who are more interested in census from 1841 and GRO BMD records.

Microsoft have an excellent free FH program but you will need to root around a bit to find it.
