Personally, I never have - and never would - use MS Firewall, AV etc. I've always bought latest version of Norton (or McCafee, etc. whichever you prefer).

The current Norton version I have is for 5 devices at a cost of £25 for a year - not a lot when you think, that's only 50 pence per week to secure 5 devices.

The trouble with Windows 10 is that in itself it is a large lump of trouble. After a major spat MS are now supplying a declawed version of it to the Chinese govt.

Win10 has a great GUI, good perfomance giving a real lift to older middle of the road kit. So what can go wrong?

It has far too many streams reporting back to Microsoft compromising data security. This is even worse if recent MS Office installed. True many can be disabled, some from Control Panel others using utility programs. Updating is non optional. Updates often restore holes you thought shut. Inevitably hackers will take advantage.

The only AV program which has truly got a collar on Win10 is the current version of Norton.

Meanwhile govts and corporations are in no rush.

There is Defender

Yes, it is called Windows defender and will run in the background in real time

I don't use it, I have a paid for antivirus, courtesy of my son in laws business. If you install a different antivirus Defender turns itself off, if you uninstall an antivirus, Defender will turn itself on again

How good it is, I don't know, I am sure someone else will post to give their opinion

Does Windows 10 have an antivirus in place ? If so, which one.
Thanks for any help as it is always appreciated.
