Truly awful.

maggiewinchester

maggiewinchester Report 14 Jun 2017 12:25

The residents themselves were concerned at the lack of sprinklers, and the external cladding, which they believed (and has now been proven) wasn't fireproof.

The residents had also been told by the company running the flats, that if there was a fire, they were to stay in the flats, as the 'fireproof' doors could withstand a fire for 30 minutes.
Those who 'obeyed' orders, probably didn't survive.
Then this comes to light:

Maddie Report 14 Jun 2017 10:11

in 1971 i went to see the film towering inferno. I was horrified but it now seems so realistic. What with 9/11 and other tower blocks here that have caught fire.
Has nothing been learn't since then
.My heart goes out to those involved.

What a tragedy...I do hope the awful pictures make it look worse than it really is for residents of the tower block....though I fear that won't be the case :-( <3 <3

I know people need to talk but there are better people to talk to than TV reporters who will broadcast your grief to the nation.

How easy it is for us to stew over the smallest things when life is generally so wonderful, precious and occasionally cut short in awful events like this tower blaze.

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 14 Jun 2017 08:43

That's true, Guinevere. However some people 'need' to talk when they've been involved in or witnessed a traumatic event.
It's the fight or flight syndrome. Other people shut-down or go into shock.

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 14 Jun 2017 08:25

I'm sickened by the reporters asking witnesses intrusive questions and probing for details of people jumping.

Ghouls, all of them.

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 14 Jun 2017 08:21

Considering is recently been refurbished, the fire shouldn't have spread so quickly. There's some suggestion that they didn't use, or replace, fire retardant cladding.
One resident has said there ought to have been smoke alarms in the corridors, not just the flats.

The fire brigade may make some horrific discoveries when they are able to thoroughly search. :-(

It would seem to have been engulfed so quickly.

Some fatalities sadly.

Thoughts for all involved, residents, firefighters and all those caring for them.
