It's not uncommon for a child to talk to an imaginary friend...they grow out of it.

Do it as an adult and you're described as demented or schizophrenic.

The difference years make :-S

Probably why we talk to cats and dogs when we are older!

I often talk to myself. It's my way of concentrating.

However, I've been known to do it in shops and other places, and if I'm caught, I make a joke of it! :-D :-D :-D

That's true Shirley. You get the best answers when you talk to yourself. :-S

Thank you, I'm not sure if it's common place or a bad habit.

Is it internal dialogue ?.......or an expression of duality ?

Jem
Just put some earphones in and put the other end in your pocket and everyone will think you are on the phone. ;-) ;-) ;-) :-D

Yes, I also talk to myself and get the answers I want to hear. I tend to do this inside and not outside usually.

It's not talking to myself, it's thinking out loud ;-)

Talking to yourself when you are in solo mode is perfectly normal. It helps with concentration and self criticism or avoiding errors.

Talking to imaginary friends beyond the age of 7 is maybe indicative of an inability to form normal relationships. Maybot and the Tory front bench for instance.
However there is somebody for everybody, Maybot has the D. U P and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.

My wife talks to herself regularly. She says says it is because no one else listens to her.....!

IGP I can relate to that because I often think I'm talking a
foreign language to my lot at times.

Ah - talking to cats - quite normal - as is talking to dogs :-D
One of my cats always responds to a 'hello' with a meow (that's how I got her to release the live dragonfly that was beating it's wings whilst held in her mouth).
The other cat has no real voice, so just nudges me when I say 'hello'.
