The great thing your husband had was the confidence to have a go.

Nobody knows what they can do until they try.

Well done to him for having a go.

Det

For a man who had just a basic education because of poor health as a kiddy he went on to have a go at many things even though he left school aged 14

Hubby was very into trying to do jobs , he was a bit slow because he was a perfectionist but he did a good job
Yes I am very proud for him on the compliments given today on the good carpentry he did

Grandson has been very pleased to have all grandads tools i have given him

35 years is a goodly length of time for something that has been exposed to all sorts of weather. It must have gladden your heart to be told how well made it was. :-)

Over 35 years ago hubby built a pergola in our back garden

Now this was a guy who was ill as a child with rheumatic fever that left a heart murmur and bronchial problems

He was so sickly as a child his nana nursed him through several illnesses and he couldn't eat properly till he was 18months old

He missed out on so many things at school and was bullied too because of his small eyes . There was another kid with the same name so he was knicknamed JapsTaylor

I was affronted when he told me

So he was very into doing DIY and having a go .we would do decorating between us

We decided we would Iike a pergola in our back garden and he set about doing it complete with garden lights all wired in
The last few years it has gradually rotted as he wasn't able to keep up with the wood treatments

I decided it needed to go as it was rotting and sagging so got a quote to remove and replace
It's been done today. The workmen said what a good job he had done with all cut mitred joints and how well it had been constructed

So I now have a new 4.8 metre pergola with ten struts and it looks great

I know hubby would be pleased
