Horrible things as are the beetles they attract. Second on the list to banned things in our garden after the local cooking fats.

I love the look of lilies but the smell makes me feel ill so my family know that if they buy me flowers they have to ask that there are no lilies included.

I have a small arrangement of artificial lilies because I like the look of them.

I love the coloured lilies and I have been told that as soon as they open to pluck the pollenless stamens out.
As well as being toxic, the stains of the mature stamens are hard to get out of clothing etc

I love lilies, and would be tempted to grow or buy some were it not for the cats. I make do with sniffing them any time I go into M & S :-)

Absolutely the best lilies I ever saw were in a garden in Brittany ( a very happy working holiday, spent with a lovely family) those lilies and an afternoon spent shelling home grown peas sitting in the shade are enduring memories. <3

Now is the time of year when all sorts of lilies flower and some make spectacular flower arrangements with them. The strong scent is loved by many.

The downside is that lilies including the copious pollen, are highly toxic to cats. Treatment has to be very prompt and can be v expensive as well.

A lady near us grows lilies so every year is a worry. I am just back from the vet with snr cat who turned out to have a mild urinary infection nothing more except a bill of £92 for test and pills.

The pollen is spread by insects which makes it easier to manage as the pollen stalks are ez to remove. They also affect some hay fever sufferers making their streaming cold even worse. Cats pick up the pollen by grooming. Kittens may try and eat the leaves.

Such a beautiful plant.....
