Thank you all for interesting info. William Heelis was, I think married to Beatrix Potter as I suspect you know and Beatrix Potter and he lived at Castle cottage.

Hill Top once belonged to Beatrix Potter, the children's author and illustrator known for the series of small format Peter Rabbit books. Potter bought the house and its 34-acre (14 ha) working farm in July 1906 as her home away from London and her artistic retreat. She left the house to the National Trust. The house, farm and nearby villages feature in Potter's books, The Tale of the Pie and the Patty-Pan, The Tale of Tom Kitten, The Tale of Jemima Puddle-Duck and The Tale of Samuel Whiskers or The Roly-Poly Pudding.

The farm was managed by John Cannon. The wing on the left was built by Potter for Cannon and his family in 1906. The Tale of Jemima Puddle-Duck was dedicated to his children, Ralph and Betsy, who appear in the illustrations, as does their mother.

Nothing comes up for hilltop cottage. Have tried just sawrey and still nothing, although Sawrey does actually come up on some addresses if Hawkshead is put in the search.

Asking on here because this is where I usually lurk. If anyone has the 1911 I wonder if they would mind looking at an address for me. It is Hilltop cottage in near Sawrey. (Might be under Hawkshead)

OH is doing a talk on Beatrix Potter and this is a cottage she owned from 1903 to 1913, however he thinks she only used it for summer long holidays and had a manager in at other times. I thought it would be interesting to know what the census says.
