I used to have a PAF file system but have now bought a MacBook. I would be very grateful if anyone could recommend a good easy to use genealogy software program preferably free which is easy to use

Thanking you in anticipation. Ron

Try PAF again. It's no longer available from LDS but if you have saved the program on your old computer you should be able to copy it across to your new.

I did that from my laptop to desktop when I changed that from XP to W10.

Isn't the problem that William now has a Mac? The implication is that he didn't before.

This thread is suggesting GRAMPS

I was assuming that PAF would run on a Mac but I don't know if I am correct in that.

Google search returned a number of sites that reference running Windows on a MacBook.
For instance:-

Running Wimdows on a Mac is a pain.
For the Paf problem best solution is to install Roots Magic which has a Mac version and supports Paf.
Not free though.
GRAMPS, which is free, also has a Mac version and can deal with paf nut it is not quite so ez.

As a general point gen software is moving towards using xml rather than prop formats.

I would go for Rootsmagic - use to love PAF

I know rootsmagic works on both normal PC and Mac.

If my OH can get to grips with Rootsmagic anyone can - age is getting to him - but he is happy using this programme.

Hi
Thanks for the input. At the moment I am thinking of going with My heritage, Family Tree builder. Although not free, it does appear to easier than some i have looked at.

Thanks again Ron.
