A friend of a friend everytime she looked across at my garden would say "you want to get those trees cut down" it was bitter-sweet revenge for all those times when I bit back a sharp response when after I moved the trees were cut down, and she said how much she missed them ;-)

You would think I needed to have a carer the way she talks to me.

I hate to say it but one is as capable of doing the wrong thing ( or at least not the BEST thing) at 70 as one is at 17 so while you might well be able to think for yourself .... it doesn't mean someone else doesn't know 'better' or thinks what they say might save you time or trouble ;-)

I'm sure she meant well and was trying to help.

The patchwork I have been making for over forty years is nearing completion and is approaching ten feet square so it is quite hard to fins a space to measure or view it in it's entirety so I take it to the pub when the old ladies club meets.

We can measure it on the hall floor and , every other week, there is a craft group, or what is left of it, that meets there as well. When we lay the patchwork down for the first time, a woman from the craft group took it upon herself to be in charge of the measuring. Well, this was fine by me as I am happy t let anybody else scramble about on the floor.

As she first got down to measure the patchwork that has taken me forty years to hand stitch, she mentioned that she had made several of them so she must be absolutely marvelous for her age!

Ninety-odd square feet of material on the lap is a bit difficult to envisage sometimes and I took one of the edges off at an angle so there was a point on it this time which needs to come off. Measuring woman instructed me on how to make it straight by cutting some off as, apparently, I am not to cut stitches and take off a piece as I have done before but must cut it across with scissors at the point she indicated. Must remember that!

Also, some medication I am on doesn't always agree with me and I had to nip out to throw up, very discreetly I might add but one of the ladies wanted to know if I was alright. I had been drinking lime and soda and as OH happened to be there, I asked him to get me an orange and lemonade. She said, in a very pointed sort of way "Do you want water?"

Please remind me that I am over sixty, still alive and capable o f thinking for myself because that woman certainly doesn't think so.
