Hi , yes that's the pub , there was a landlady called Margaret whitmore . I found her name in old papers advertising auctions .
What I can't find us it's exact location on Derby road .
I think the pub was closed and turned into 2 cottages numbers 76 and 77 but cannot prove it .

Have you contacted the Aston Local History Group? They may be able to give you a list of landlords.

"A further pub, The Coach and Horses, operated in premises on Derby Road and can be traced back to 1804 though trading appears to have ceased sometime between 1870 and 1881"

Not exactly what you wanted David, but in the 1841 census this man is a publican living on Derby Road although it doesn't give any pub name so might not be what you are looking for:-

The English census 1841-2011 is not based on addresses but E.Ds or enumeration district. An E.D. might be a block in a city or a big chunk of countryside. Thus if you want to search by address you need the E.D. As street and road names change over time, renamed or destroyed by bombing and development not always easy. Old Street maps are a good tool. There are Web sites listing old and new Street names for the same Street. FMP makes a best guess. Other good tools for finding addresses are Kellys and the London Gazette. The electoral register also but remember the first Ge with universal suffrage was 1929.

Once you have the E.D. with Ancestry it is easy to work through the block. Very often you will find all sorts of connections to your target family so it is well worth the effort
. Also Eds change slowly over time so having found an Ed it is interesting to check for other years. Then of course you can mine adjacent Eds...

You will not get anywhere with this problem using Gr tools save that some memberd are very helpful if you post some data.

Good luck

It depends which site you are using David. If it's on Genes then I don't know as most of us use either Findmypast or Ancestry. On Findmypast there is space on the search screen to put in the address.

If you want to give the address and the census you are interested in then someone will have a look for you.

Does anyone know how to search by address only on a census?
