Although not ideal, its better than narrowing the road so much that emergency vehicles can't get past. We do check that the pavement is still wide enough for a wheelchair user or buggy/pushchair can get by.

I am similar.

How busy does the road have to be before overtaking becomes middle lane hogging?

Yes, I think water does count - I rarely eat, apart from peppermints, and try and drink when I'm not moving.

I have never mounted the kerb to park since one evening, many years ago, when I lived in a narrow residential street. We were at a party just down the road, so we walked, but a lot of the guests came by car and all parked half on the pavement. Somebody must have complained, because usually we never saw a policeman but every single car had a parking ticket!! :-0 :-0 At 2 o'clock in the morning there were a lot of unhappy people, most of whom were probably over the current drink/drive limits.

A private members bill to outlaw parking on pavements was talked out earlier this year. No chance of a rerun anytime soon mores the pity.

It would be cool if operating a mobile phone promptly put the car into slow mode. Tech feasible for models built last 20 years.

After phones, drugs/alcohol worst fault is too close to car in front. There was a heavy accident due to this today nr Lyndhurst.

Safest option is to go by train if you can.

Probably 3

Unintentional Middle Lane hogging
Eating/drinking while driving. Does water count?
Mounting the kerb to park - have you seen some of our narrow residential roads?
