we emigrated to Canada from the southern US ........ several people down there wanted to know if we would be living in an igloo and riding dog sleds

We've often been asked in the UK and in the US .......

....... "I have a cousin in Toronto. Do you know her?"

errr, no ............... it takes 5 hours by plane to get to Toronto from here.

I can see how this one happens ........... there is a street here called Nanaimo Street and a town called Nanaimo on Vancouver Island.

Tourists see the trolley bus signed Nanaimo, and ask if they can get to the town Nanaimo ........

errrr, no ............... there's about 30 miles of the Salish Sea between us

same with the street called Victoria, the trolley bus signed Victoria, and Victoria on the Island.

gives us amusement anyway

:-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D

Sent the OP on to family - one of my daughters sent this comment:

When I was on holiday in India one person in our tour group took exception to having to queue in the 'foreigners' line at Delhi airport on arrival, he didn't improve during the holiday ....

I recently watched a TV programme about cruise liners visiting Kirkwall, capital of Orkney (which is a group of islands off the top of Scotland, just in case anybody didn't know). The local tour guide, who was taking a turn at "meeting and greeting" was telling the interviewer about some of the odd requests from tourists:

Q. Where can I get the bus to Edinburgh?
A. If you want to get to Edinburgh you'll have to fly, Madam.

Q. Can you take me to O'Donnell Street?
A. I'm sorry, we don't have an O'Donnell Street here.
Q. Oh, aren't we in Dublin then?

.... said to my daughter when she was working as a gate keeper for a local tourist attraction.

"I don't have the exact money, but give me the change in real money. I don't want any of your funny money."

............. tendering a large US dollar bill

Now we are in the holiday season - apparently all based actual complaints:-

1. “I think it should be explained in the brochure that the local convenience store does not sell proper biscuits like custard creams or ginger nuts.”

2. “It’s lazy of the local shopkeepers in Puerto Vallarta to close in the afternoons. I often needed to buy things during ‘siesta’ time — this should be banned.”

3. “On my holiday to Goa in India , I was disgusted to find that almost every restaurant served curry. I don’t like spicy food.”

4. “We booked an excursion to a water park but no-one told us we had to bring our own swimsuits and towels. We assumed it would be included in the price.”

5. “The beach was too sandy. We had to clean everything when we returned to our room.”

6. “We found the sand was not like the sand in the brochure. Your brochure shows the sand as white but it was more yellow.”

7. “They should not allow topless sunbathing on the beach. It was very distracting for my husband who just wanted to relax.”

8. “No-one told us there would be fish in the water. The children were scared.”

9. “Although the brochure said that there was a fully equipped kitchen, there was no egg-slicer in the drawers.”

10. “We went on holiday to Spain and had a problem with the taxi drivers as they were all Spanish.”
