The soap nuts came yesterday. A 1kg bag cost £10 plus carriage.

It looks like a bag of acorn cups, I imagine they come from some sort of oak tree. There are also two little calico bags with drawstrings in the bag.

As you can imagine, there are zillions of these acorn cups and you use two in a wash. Those two can be used at least twice. Of course, I will be trying three.

I have done one wash with the nuts so far. There were no suds but the washing has come out clean with no smell at all. It also feels like it has been washed in soft water and our water, coming from an aquifer, is crunchy.

Th washing was only average grubby, my days in a boiler suit are long gone and he as never had mucky work apart from food stains so I think I have hit on something good here.

Once the nuts are spent they just go on the compost.

Interesting, waiting to hear if they remove stains and real dirt.

That is about as dirty as my washing gets these days.

The armpits are alright, the dinner is gone from down my front.

They sound interesting!!
I Googled them - good for eczema sufferers, apparently.
The 'driver' suffers from eczema, so may be getting an early birthday present!! :-D :-D

Sounds like an idea worth looking at....

They are very ecological and can save a little money but cleaning performance is mediocre at best. Years ago when I gave them a go boss complained about grubby shirts so back to non bio.

If the crushed grunge look appeals though they are just the job.

Evidently not suitable for those who can't find their mouth when they eat then.

You can always use more soap nuts if your laundry is dirty - and use a higher temperature (though the nuts don't last as long).
