We're off to see the Perseids ....... NOT! :-| :-| :-|

We broke down! :-(

We were going to find a dark place as usual to watch, when about a quarter of a mile from home there was a loud clunk and a message on the dashboard telling us that the gearbox needed attention.

OH is still waiting for the RAC and I walked home.

I did manage to see quite a few from my garden including 3 that would have been great to see somewhere darker. We have a lot of light pollution and of course there was a bright moon too, so I didn't stay out the back for long.

Hopefully next year :-D

Awwwh, that's a shame Jem, especially as it's one of the highlights of your year. Hope your OH managed to get home before dawn!

Thank You Everyone for your concern.

OH had to wait for almost 2 hours for the RAC. Well a sub-contractor for the RAC.

He did all sorts of diagnostics tests and couldn't find a problem with the car :-0 :-0
The "Gearbox needs attention" message disappeared :-S

It's an automatic car. We've had many automatics but I've not liked this one since we had it. It was a judderer, but settled down after a while.
The Mechanic reckoned we must have gone over a manhole cover and it reacted by putting up the message.

I'm not convinced!
But I drove to Tesco in it this morning and it was fine :-D

There's still an opportunity tonight. Are you going to risk it?

We worked out we were looking in the wrong direction and have since decided that there is no chance from our garden. Trees are wonderful for shade but a ruddy nuisance it you're trying to look at the night sky. We might have a better view if we stood in the middle of the nearest cornfield, but then we'd have too much light interference from the London outskirts. One of these days.....

We went out on Saturday night in the garden with the grandchildren who each had a garden recliner
and warm blankets but alas it was far too cloudy.
Last night was much clearer and I saw 1 :-(

I'm convinced that if we had been in a darker spot we would have seen more.

Jem - pleased the car has recovered hope it stays that way. ;-)

Von,

I watched for a while and also saw just one.
Other years I have seen several, so I don't think it's only the light pollution, which is a problem here.
