I look like mum's family but more like my aunt than mum but it's a family likeness from the late 1700s.

My 4th gt grandparents - Daniel Darby and Elizabeth Whitehouse, one of them had very strong genes. Found 2 other families from their children as well as my 3rd gt grandmother with later families showing a strong resemblance.

Yes, sometimes there's a strong gene going through certain branches of the family.
My mother's side is quite a dominant gene in most of us, but I favoured my father more. Just lately though, I have been noticing some of my mother in me.

My daughter is very like her facially, but with different colouring

You don't have Sgt Majors in the RAF Fly :-S

I was an SACW - Senior Aircrafts Woman - about a Lance Corporal in the army.

No idea. It was one of the photos my Grandmother had.
She was my father's older sister.

My Kentish Great Aunt on my Mum's side was also in the ATS.
Her and her husband died in the Battle of Britain when their home in Dymchurch took a direct hit from a Luftwaffe Bomb.
Their names are on the Dymchurch War Memorial, and her name is on a Remembrance book in a cathedral in London I think- to do with the ATS
