I needed a new battery for my 6 year old desktop and the fan cleaning. I've got benign tremor and working on small things very difficult. Searched for a repair guy and found PC Doctor (Franchise) rang this morning guy here inside the hour. All sorted within an hour, thoroughly checked. Total cost £25. Branches all over the country. Vereeeeeeeeeeee pleased

The 2032 desktop computer batteries cost from 50p to £3 in supermarkets. They are held in place with a small clip which can be displaced using a fingernail, nail file, small screwdriver etc. Once the case is off - usually 4 thumb screws - changing the battery takes a couple if minutes max.

When I am asked to do this from to time I do it for free.

The old batteries are an environmental disaster and must be properly disposed of eg collectors at some shops.

Ah, but had you actually read Ron's post, you would have seen he said would have difficulty changing the battery - I think £25 for call out etc is good!! :-D :-D

Sounds very good for someone not able to do it themselves for health reasons, or they could have spent hours getting frustrated and probably still end up calling someone in.

Result Ron2!
Nice to get one of those call out computer guys that doesn't rip you off. ;-)

It beats me why they are not fitted under a simple cover so that users can change them just like a car fob battery.

Mine was pretty easy and as Rollo says a standard coin battery, but looking up how to do it on the net I found many require an absurd amount of dismantling and special batteries that have an extra lead fixed to them! :-S

Rollo you didnt take in my post proper. lol I shake too much to deal with miniature stuff. I knew how to change battery but I could easily have damaged the mother board. I wouldnt have known how to dismantle the fan - the guy disconnected it separated it from leads and washed it - it were very mucky indeed. I'm very happy with outcome
