Post Referendum

Post referendum PM David Cameron did what he considered to be the right thing HE RESIGNED.

His successor Teresa May isn't so willing to go.
She has "pencilled in" 30/8/2019 to resign. If she lasts that long.

Much of the post referendum chaos is because those who voted EXIT didn't think
of how complicated an issue it would be.

There have been calls for another referendum...which would defeat the former ?

Dermot Report 28 Aug 2017 07:59

Some of us don't know what we really want until it is placed firmly on our lap.

Meanwhile, there wont be any agreement until each party in the confusion begins to understand what the others are talking about. We need better answers - not flimsy cynical excuses.

Another referendum might just be a 'baptism of convenience'.

After the referendum vote Cameron said he would stay on to manage brexit. A day or so later he resigned. It is impossible to remain P.M. without sufficient support in the party. May will find her announcement worthless if she is defeated in the House something quite possible this autumn.

David, a lot of people didn't even attempt to think through the consequences or possible repercussions. People get a bee in their bonnets about something and go with a gut reaction
for what they think will sort that aspect without looking at the bigger picture. An uninformed decision is like a loose cannon and can do more harm than good.

Sharron Report 28 Aug 2017 14:40

Was it entirely sensible to entrust a population who had recently voted to name their polar exploration vessel 'Boaty McBoatface' to decide anything at all?

David Cameron was hoping to call the bluff of those who were calling to withdraw and it backfired badly on him.

I think many people are remembering the poll tax riots which did bring an end to an unwanted imposition through popular revolt. This is very different indeed in that it it was brought about by a properly constituted referendum. Those who voted for an exit were voting for just that. The logistics of it's implementation were not their concern, they had already elected a government whose job it was to take care of that.

I agree with you Annx. EEC were getting the blame for everything, they still are. :-0

Neil Kinnock once rallied vote for me boyos, I'll get you out of Europe.

He lost the election and the leadership of the Labour party.

Then he and his wife went to Brussels and became commissioners. HYPOCRACY ?

Aren't all MP's hypocritcal jerks.

Ukip get most of their money from the E.U. siphoning funds intended for other purposes to party coffers. The same behaviour by Marine Le Pen in France has left her facing criminal charges and prison.
The Tories are in the doodoo with the Electoral Commission over election expenses. As many as a dozen seats may have to be rerun.

Hypocracy?

Although neither side covered themselves in glory the Leave campaign was wall to wall lies, zenophobia and racism funded by some very unsavoury people in the UK and the USA.

Of course voters should consider ends and Means it is of little use washing hands of the issue. As brexit reality looks less a walk in the park with benefits the votes of the leavers are increasingly devalued just because of this. That is why Labour have been able to give the whole brexit debate a big jolt. He who dares wins. There is not much daring involved running through wheatfields.

Stat for the day. By 2022 1.5 M mostly brexit voting wrinklies will be with us no more. 2.5 M mostly remaining millenials will have the vote.

Sharron:" The logistics of it's implementation were not their concern, they had already elected a government whose job it was to take care of that."

Too true - then, because he didn't have a plan, Cameron does a sulk and leaves his post!!
May will get us in a different doo-doo, then b*gger off too! :-| :-| :-|

Most of her cabinet perhaps think if she had a pair
she would have resigned when her election lost them their majority.

Well I certainly don't want J Corbyn in to muck everything up.

Given the current state of the going broke country, NHS disintegrating, education inadequate funding, increasing poverty, chaos in prisons the family courts and criminal law, shrunken armed forces, magical invisible police, travel by road or rail uncertain and dangerous grossly illegal levels of pollution, risks of winter brown outs on the power grid it might be said that May and co are making a pretty good fist of "mucking it all up" without any help from J Corbyn.

Of course there is the icing on the brexit cake as well but who is going to eat it? The three stooges I suppose.
