We live at no2 and our friend who died having her other leg off was, quite understandably, in a wheelchair. Sometimes she would come to tea.

Our friend Jackie came round on Wednesday. She has a walking frame.

On Thursday, Fred's mate came here on the bus and was talking to the woman from no6 who told her that we had had the woman in the wheelchair visit the previous day. She knew this because the woman at no 1 had been told by the woman at no3.

You can't walk across the room without they know your knee creaks.

Ha ha...yes, I know that to be very true, but village life has many advantages too.

One past landlady in the pub was horrified because, every time somebody left the bar for whatever reason, everybody else talked about them.

Well, yes, so what? It happens to everybody who leaves the bar,not just one or two.

As somebody said 'You could do something on your own, in a lead lined room and the next day they would be asking "Do you know what he did yesterday? On his own, in that lead lined room of his!" '

Well, I was born in this village and I know who was very kind to the Canadian troops in the war, including one highly respectable lady who was reputed to have ' one half way up for boys!' and how long has the war been over now?

We locals keep in touch with our grapevine and we malign and run each other down non-stop but that doesn't mean anybody else is allowed to.

i doesn't only happen in villages!!

it also happens in small neighbourhoods in big cities ..... if the right mix of people is there!

Many years ago, we had to have new insulation put on our house which meant the siding would be taken off and put back. All work was to be done from the outside of the house

I told the neighbour across the street that this was happening as she always watched the neighbourhood.

About 3 days later, the neighbour next door said she was sorry to hear we would be leaving ............. the story that had gone round the neighbourhood was that I was leaving OH and daughter and going to live in Australia, so he and the child would be selling the house and moving. :-S
