... so busy on the board tonight? Because several holidays of late in Greece, France and Devon have rejuvenated me, that's why. And, by the way, anyone from the West country see us on the early BBC local news on Saturday? We marched through Newton Abbot led by a piper, to the clock tower, where there were speeches by local dignitaries and photo opportunities. It was to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the disbandment of our regiment. Followed in the evening by a dinner and dance at the racecourse.

Why Newton Abbott?

Because... The regiment was a Boy's Training Regiment at the then Denbury Camp, just outside Newton Abbot. Formerly Rawlinson Barracks and now the site of Channings Wood category C prison. I went there, aged just 15, straight from school, in 1961. The regiment was disbanded 50 years ago, hence the parade. Most of us that are left think we are still teenagers. At least the dinner and dance didn't end in a punch-up!
