What about Larry the cat?

RolloTheRed

RolloTheRed Report 21 Sep 2017 12:45

tho I was not a Thatcher fan there is no denying her intelligence and general competence in running a government. There is absolutely no way she would have allowed the current chaos.

The Single Market was also her idea, playing to UK strengths , services, rather than mfg which will not rescue Brexit whatever Liam Fox thinks.

So now we have a selection of strange creatures straight out of Gormenghast wanting to be PM whie May fiddles and London burns.

Perhaps Moggie would be the best choice.

latest polling Tory 42 Lab 42 LD 8
LD up 25% from six but way to go.
May rating -18 Corbyn -8

The Tory - DUP deal remains a mirage and poses serious questions about May's claim to a maj in the house and select committees. The DUP continues to sit on the opp benches drawing short money. It has already voted against the govt on various issues.

The reason for this is that the DUP have yet to receive their £1bn bung. It cannot be paid without a Commons vote of approval. Good luck with that.

So there you go May's cockleshell is about to descend the Reichenback Falls. Vince the Hat Moriarty looks on with glee.

We also watched it. The Hat business overwhelmed the policy content. Did it work? Well, we're talking about it :-S

Bob, hubby and I wasted 5 minutes of our lives watching that too.

Both clueless as to its message, apart from they were impressed by the hat :-(

You watched a party political broadcast?
What on earth for?
I thought you had more sense.

The only useful function for these broadcasts is training for junior program makers as mistakes will either be missed or blamed on the political party.

The LibDems were eaten alive in coalition by the Tories in much the same way as a century ago. Now Labour are eating what's left in opposition. The LDs need some mainstream policies which could be popular without being nicked. The recent Bournemouth conf. failed to do that. Being midway on everything means pleasing nobody in an essentially binary voting system.

I have just watched a party political broadcast by the LibDems on the telly. I am still trying to work out if it was a spoof.

there are pitifully few people who could do the job of PM

- Phil Hammond, but the brexiters would never stand for it
- Keith Starmer but Momentum would never stand for it
- Ruth Davidson but she is not interested
- George Osborne will have his day again but not yet and in any case he will want the brexit mess to play out

BoJo, Gove would split the party and wreck whataver chance remains of avoiding a brexit disaster
David Davis and Liam Fox are too stupid
Amber Rudd has even less nous than May
Vince has far too much baggage

In any case the British media have failed to grasp that the" squabbles of all the British parties no longer count for a row of beans all the decisions will be made in Berlin and Brussels.

May will not get lift off in Florence she will be left without a boarding ticket.

Her basic problem, widely shared in the UK, is to see the EU as a trading bloc. It is not. Primarily it is a political project designed to preserve democracy and the rule of law. Merkel sees any economic hit for car makers etc as just collateral damage for preserving the political union.

Just about anything could happen next but most likely scenarios are May dragging the country to a brexit no deal doom OR a Lab led coalition which would be faced with similar problems to the Tories.

If brexit falls apart then the £ will drop another 20c against the euro with fallout a la Greque.

Leaving the politicql union is a reasonable democratic aspiration even if it is pretty well certain to be reversed sooner rather than later. Leaving the Customs Union and Single Market is nuts. There is not the faintest chance of trade with the rest of the world covering the gap. Far more likely would be a a firesale of UK assets and a lot of the brightest young people leaving as they are doing already.

Vince as the rescue candidate ? No chance.

A putsch by BoJo and friends remains a poss if May's project turns turtle. Quite how the country would react to Hammers House of Horrors on the front bench is unpredictable. Supercrutch will be delighted as BoJo's chums are far ahead of Vince in the spite stakes.

Apart from the fact that I agree with Supercrutch and at the risk of bringing wrath upon my head, he'll be too old by the time he has a shot at it.

He is one of the most spiteful politicians I have ever had the misfortune of seeing on TV or reading in print.

KathleenBell

KathleenBell Report 19 Sep 2017 19:21

I think all he meant was that he has to appear to the general public as a possible PM. This is true for any leader of any political party. There wouldn't be much point in being a leader if the aim wasn't to be PM in the long run.

He is not on wacky baccy but is thinking of a lab snp ld coalition where the two larger parties preferred a neutral pm. Not unusual in furrin parts but would be a first in the Uk. Unlikely.

Meanwhile the Tories continue their death march.

The UK economy is like the Grenfell Towers. Looks fine despite the moaners. And then.....
