maggie ...........

I have actually met this woman when OH and I visited the city where she lives. She's a great person, and I would never previously have put her down as having the beliefs about Obama and trumpoid that she now expresses.

It's been an eye opener, not only to myself but to others who were friendly with her on Friends Reunited.

David, I am also on FB with my real name which I also use on this site

...my sister has that problem.
She then feels guilty about 'liking' things that are of her true political persuasion.

I'm very careful about my 'friends' - but have been very lucky :-D :-D

Maybe I have an astute political radar :-D :-D :-D :-D

I find myself taking "leaves of absence" frequently from FB .......I have one friend from Friends Reunited days who I do like except for her politics.

She was English but has lived in the US for a number of years, and a lot of what she was posting last year while the US election was on, and is still doing now, just makes me so mad. She has said and re-posted things other have said about Obama that are just plain downright racist, and has nothing but good to say about the trump-oid.

I try not to read her posts on those topics, but even the first 2 words are usually disgusting.

When it gets to me ............... I leave FB under that name alone for days or weeks at a time.

Like anninglos my deafness makes phoning useless - my limited family use of Facebook does help with casual chat - and the use of a tablet (like e.g. In bed) for news and email is invaluable. What a difference this would have made to my stone deaf father who didn't even have subtitles for television!

I am actually on facebook David under my real name, although even that is relatively common.
Chris Wessex, I would love to have a long chat with my friends on the phone but hearing aids don't make for easy phone calls so for me and people like me Facebook is great.

~~~~~~~~~~~ to friends on here on there. :-D
I have 105 family and friends on FB and all my posts are for them only unless I choose to tag a friend then their friends can see it.
With family all over the world it is the easiest way to share news.
I have a number of GR friends on FB too ~~~~~~~ to them
I do use Facebook but only to a limited extent.
I have 5 'friends'......Billy no mates ;-) ......But they are only family, by choice.
I regularly get friend requests but my real friends know I won't add them as I would rather pick up the phone for a chat, if they are in the UK.
As for the "you may know these people!" ......OK when there is a mutual connection I can understand them coming up but why would I want to make contact some strange random person on the other side of the globe with no connection to me :-S
I do also belong to several 'interest' groups that I enjoy reading the posts and making the occasional comment.
When I finally officially retire maybe I will have the time to explore Facebook and use it in a more positive/constructive way :-D
I'm on FB.
I have found relations on there and friends from the past as well as being able to see pictures of the family,especially as a lot of them live abroad.
I just think you have to be careful and not put too much personal information on.
Messenger is brilliant for messaging or calling / videoing.
I have a few Genes friends on mostly that have been cyber friends for a while.
Used sensibly,I find it's fine. :
:-) :-)
Even if your spelling is carp, it is godo practice playing Scrabble!
I play an Indian gentleman so English is probably not his first language and he regularly beats me by one and two hundred.
I am on Facebook under my own name and say what I think, pretty much like I do on here.
Like others I am on Facebook but only post to close friends, too many strange people out there to be public.
Best to cancel your account and restart with invites to just those you wish to contact. ;-)
I am on facebook, have family and actual friends plus quite a few past and present GR friends on there, so it is good to keep in touch. I also belong to 4 closed groups. I can't say I have seen anything particularly upsetting on there. If I don't want to see something (i.e. during the election and re Brxit) then I 'hide' it.
+++DetEcTive+++ Report 20 Sep 2017 08:14
RMS, you've 3 more 'friends' than me!
Most are family including 2 distant ones found while researching our family, a couple of friends from school dating back more than 50 years, several people from this site as well as a couple of 'closed' research sites.
I originally signed up when one of our children was living overseas. It's a good way of seeing what they're up to ;-)
One of the cousins is into 'alternative' new age stuff, but her reposts are easy enough to ignore. Can't say I've seen anything upsetting.
