Hi Ann,
Hope your husband's surgery goes well, I had mine over seven years ago.

It is good to have mutual support from other patients after treatment, there are lots of clubs around, I am involved in one at Broomfield hospital and we have a website www.thewalnut.club (which reminds me I must do some updating on it). You should be able to find a local one.

I am sorry to hear of your husband's health problems, Ann. I hope the op goes well for him.

The problem the other day was that the crossing gates got stuck closed. There was so much traffic piling up but I managed to find a different way back to the house.

This evening we went to eat at the only pub in town, it was good food and very friendly, pleasant, efficient service. So easy to park outside too.

We are sad to be going home as we like it here so much but almost certainly will come back again sometime next year. Will make sure I give you plenty of notice do we can arrange a get together with who ever is around.

Liz don't know what happened in Walton today? I am on the owners facebook and no-one mentioned the traffic. I would love a mini meet with you and Vera. I am sorry to say my husband has prostate cancer and we had to come back. We are now awaiting UCH in London on Friday to see him for surgery. Everything has gone so fast so we could not stay at the caravan any longer. Did you get pie and mash? LOL x

I love this place!

Today I managed a couple more hours on the sunlounger in the garden then had a brisk walk into Connaught Avenue for more retail therapy. I had seen something I thought my son's fiancee would like for Christmas so went to get that and then checked out the charity shops again. I found a pair of fleece lined Ecco boots, £9.95, practically new! Perfect for winter.

I am a happy bunny!

A mini meet was what I had in mind, Vera. I am glad your brother is doing well.

We went to Walton this afternoon, and walked the length of the pier. It was overcast but the rain clouds blew over so we didn't get wet.

On our return the crossiing gates were closed, with a police presence, and queues of traffic in every direction so it took us a while and a detour to find our way back to our house. I don't know what has happened.

Enjoying our stay still

Sorry I didn't respond earlier Liz. I spent Wednesday visiting my brother, who is recovering well though it will be some months before he is back to his old self, and yesterday I had a bad migraine.

We live just over 30 miles from Frinton but it only takes about an hour by car and we do visit from time to time. Daughter lives near Great Bentley and teaches at Clacton.

I would love to get together when you next visit Frinton - we could have a sort of mini meet with Ann.

Glad you are enjoying your break. It's pouring here at the moment so I hope it is not raining on you.

Oh Ann, what a shame! Hope your hubby's appointments went well.

We like the house and Frinton so much we definitely want to come back and hopefully for longer next time, so I will put up a thread.

Maybe Vera can do the same day.

We are hoping to go to Walton on the Naze tomorrow for a look round.

What a shame Liz I have missed you yet again. I have a caravan in Walton on the Naze and was there right up to last Sunday. Had to come home as hubby had 2 hospital appointments. If ever you go again message me and I will go to caravan. Frinton is about 10 minutes away in the car.

Well it rained hard last night, but today it got out really sunny and warm. I got a sunlounger from the conservatory and sunned myself in the lovely garden for a couple of hours. No neighbours on one side and those the other side are hardly here so it was quite peaceful. Just what I like !

I could happily stay here for a month or so.

We have the rail track at the end of the garden here, but it's not obtrusive at all. We came through the level crossing gates on our way in to Frinton.

Today we went to Connnaught Avenue where all the shops are. Many little shops, several cafes, one pub and lots of charity shops. I got a brand new black Lotus handbag for £4.99 and stocked up on paperbacks. The bags retail for around £49.99 so it's a real bargain and exactly what I was looking for, stylewise.

Several small shops had closed either side of a Sainsburys, now they have bought up those buildings and will make one huge Sainsburys. Such a shame as it takes away the character of the place and will make a big difference to the current easy free 2hr parking.

Every one is very friendly and we will probably stay on to Monday morning now.

Weather lovely today but rain forecast soon.

Vera, I am sorry about your brother and hope he will make a good recovery. It would have been great to meet you, how far away are you?

I think I posted on an earlier thread ..............

I worked in a private hotel in Frinton for one whole summer, between finishing high schooll and starting at university, July to September

It was a great place for my first time living away from home.

AND ........ the Jazz Festival in Clacton with (that year) Humphrey Lyttleton, Johnny Dankworth and Cleo Laine et al just made it all the better.

Rollo, Frinton has a train station. The level crossing can make access to the town a bit slow. I think coaches used to be banned at Frinton.

I also know the area fairly well. We lived in Essex for many years and daughter lives near Great Bentley. Frinton is only about an hour's drive from me.

I would have loved to meet you Liz as I have never met any GR friends "in real life". Unfortunately my brother had a major operation on Friday and all our spare time at the moment is spent making the three hour round trip to visit him.

Next time perhaps?

ah the secret province of Tendring.
I know the area pretty well, GF lived in Great Bentley with a beach hut in W Merseas Is. and a great aunt in Frinton. I still have shares in a food company still busy in Manningtree.
Frintonites would not of course ever visit Jaywick, an off the grid community featured on a BBC documentary on Essex about a year ago.
Frinton refused to have nasty sooty steam engines way back so for trains you have to go to Walton.
Clacton is better for cheap thrills though.
What I like about the Essex coast is mud crawling in an old sailing gaffer. Great fun.
Sadly I cannot go there anytime soon much as I would like to :-(
