RUGBY UNION NEW TRY RULE

It used to be that there had to be clear DOWNWARD PRESSURE on the grounding of the ball for a Try to be awarded. This rule has now been changed.

FOR A TRY TO BE AWARDED ~ THE BALL CAN BE GROUNDED IN THE TRY AREAS BY:

A. Holding the ball and touching the ground with it
B. By Pressing down on the ball with a HAND or hands, an arm or arms or the front of the players body from waist to neck

This new rule was disregarded during the England v Wales game a fortnight ago. It is now universally acknowledged that New Zealand born GARETH ANSCOMBE certainly did have his hand on the ball when it was landed during that game, and Wales should have been awarded the Try.


GLENN NEWMAN, flown in from New Zealand to be the TMO Referee, decided AGAINST awarding the Try!
