I recall watching on Bid TV some years ago Peter Simon trying to sell to the

public a thing called A DONGLE. As I recall it plunged into a USB socket enabling

your PC to become a giant TV receiver pulling in foreign channels.

Was this a hoax? or is my memory playing tricks? What is a Dongle?

Nope it existed

A dongle — also called an internet dongle — is a small USB device that allows you to access the internet. It can be referred to as a dongle, USB modem, internet stick, USB network adapter or USB mobile broadband stick.

Our kitchen designer had one, whether it was just full of data, or accessed the internet, I'm not sure..

I've got a firestick. That's a portable file you put data of your choice on.

The thing I had in mind was a TV receiver. Haven't a clue how it works.
