I thought not!!

We've been without internet for a week ............. finally got our acts together today and got the service guy in

Old connection to the cable was replaced

Old "Museum modem" was replaced with a new one

Router thrown out when the new modem wouldn't talk to it.

No matter, new modem has all the whistles and bells, including super-fast WiFi

OH could never access the internet on his computer downstairs, we were always told a black spot due to concrete wall/distance/ or ????

Nope ............ just needed new modem!

Same with my laptop in another room.

It took him about an hour to sort us out!

Ah, what it is not to be too antique!!!

I had a similar problem!
A few years ago, my PC went 'wobbly'.

I'd had a contract with a provider, they'd provided the modem.
The contract had run out, but as I was still paying the same, I didn't bother renewing.
However, I phoned them up and asked for a new modem, they told me to buy one.
I pointed out that, even though I had no contract, I'd been paying them to provide me with internet access, and, for that, I needed a modem!

They tried to argue that, with the phone, they provide the line, I buy the phone, therefore, with the internet, I provide the modem.
I argued that, with the internet, I provide the PC/Laptop, whatever, they provide the link to the line. Without the modem, they weren't providing the link, and were taking money under false pretenses.

In the end, due to my 'customer loyalty', they sent me a new one.

Five years later, same thing - so I set up a contract with a different provider last year, and got another new modem!

I noticed you weren't around Sylvia as there have been a couple of queries that I guessed you might post on, of the 'find your crystal ball and tear your hair out' variety ;-)

oh yes, I would have been posting on those Nyx!!!!

Maggie ...... we still pay for our internet and cable, so all service is free. We didn't pay a penny.

I think the only time an individual can get free internet is to go to a coffee shop, and sit there.

Contracts for cable, internet and phone are open-ended, month by month. No pay, the company cut you off

I still pay for the internet - it was the replacement/updated modem I didn't feel I should pay for!

SylviaInCanada Report 2 Feb 2018 19:14

It seems that updated/replacement equipment such as the modem is included in our contract

Ah, I suppose, as my contract had run out - but I was still a customer, they thought they could insist I buy my own.

Of course I missed you Sylvia <3

I have just bought a new router to replace the “ new” one the internet company sent when they upgraded the line to fibre. Only as far as the cabinet that is. We then have good old fashioned copper wire from the cabinet, we are as far as it is possible to be from the cabinet, so achieve a massive 14 mb. Sadly there is no true cable in my little town.

The new dual band router I have just bought is far superior to the one the company supplied.

we will be donating our "old" router to the Sally Ann thrift shop ............... it's not a bad old thing, and we had only had it for about 5 years or so!
