A cigarette is a pinch of tobacco rolled in paper with a light at one end & a silly person at the other end.

I stopped smoking in 1991 with the aid of acupuncture.

Vaping will now be included in updated bans here in BC regarding where one cannot smoke nicotine or marijuana (marijuana becomes legal in Canada on July 1, hence the updating) .......... including in public buildings; restaurants, cafes, coffee shops, etc; withing 30 feet of doors and windows to buildings; in hospitals, etc; in cars when children are present.

We had a very sad case in this area a couple of weeks ago involving the death of a 13 year old boy considered a potential future baseball star. His parents heard a thud in the bathroom and found him collapsed on the floor, with vaping equipment next to him. He was taken to the local hospital, released the next morning, but then had to later be taken to the Childrens Hospital where he died the next day.

His brain had lost all function.

The vaping equipment contained nicotine and had apparently been given to him a couple of days previous by the father of an acquaintance (of the same or similar age).

Various committees have been set up to examine what went wrong, and what effect if any the vaping had. For example, did the nicotine make him faint and so bang his head on something in the bathroom.

Smoking cessation aids are free on the NHS.
On the Boots website, a box of 7 patches (a weeks supply) costs £11-£14.
An addict who has approached their GP is more likely to use them if they are free.

Do bear in mind that a number of smokers wouldn’t be able to afford the start up costs. If they are provided with the equipment (or a weeks supply of patches) they won’t be buying cigarettes & can afford purchase replacements.
Surely a relatively small outlay curtesy of the NHS will save them (added, the NHS) money in the long run?

Vaping is banned in hospitals & increasingly on their grounds.

As someone that does Vape to help me stop smoking .
I have paid for all my own batteries,Atomisers and oils,

Couldn't stop with out the vape not enough guts and I had to stop smoking as I have COPD
My COPD nurse told me that I would need oxygen to breathe and she would be ordering the bottles.

Told her not to bother ordering the bottles as I had the Vaping equipment and would try it.
It took about 24 hours to get used to it but I am fine.
Oxygen levels have gone from 65% to 99%.
She was glad that I had gone on to vaping..

I do think anyone that needs or wants to stop smoking should PAY for their own equipment.

They started smoking and paid for the cigs so let/make them pay to stop smoking.

I daren't even mention this to other half as they and our daughter have just lost their prescriptions for gluten free bread. Anything palatable is almost impossible to get and takes a special journey even to try and get it.

Like Asthma this is not something they have done to themselves.

Plus - the idea that one could vape in their hospital bed........aarrgh! If they are going to allow vaping in hospitals they need to bring back the old 'smoking' rooms.

Mr Owl vapes and as he said to me I haven't broken my nicotine addiction. He swapped smoking cigarettes for using a vape but the liquid still contains nicotine so how will this help smokers?

better if the government concentrated on alcohol rather than tobacco!!! abuse of alcohol costs the country millions every year and yet prices are not increased, or hardly increased, every budget time and cigarettes are hammered. Of you were a nurse in A~ & E, who would you rather treat on a Saturday night? A smoker or a drinker!!!

By the way Annemarie, I agree with you totally!!!

They haven't been properly tested for safety - and some of the stuff that comes out stinks! :-|

I agree with you, AnnMarie - and I smoke!

I am fuming. Just seen on the news that the nhs is considering giving people vaping thingys for free to help them stop smoking.

My son has asthma and has to use his inhalers on a daily basis to keep him alive but he has to pay for them.

Just not fair.

He didnt choose to have asthma. Smokers had a choice.

Sorry for the rant but it makes me so angry. :-(
