Imagine the propaganda coupe for NK if Trump went there for a meeting "NK is so powerful that the President of the United States has had to come running to us to plead for peace".

A great deal can be ascertained about NK nuclear weapons program.
1. analysis of fallout
2. analysis of test seismic waves
3. analysis of rocket size speed and trajectory.
4. hacking NK computer networks which among other things gives away location of key personnel.
5. satellite observation

Trump is not looking for peace talks his position is unchanged NK has to dismantle its nuke program. Thus it is more likely than not that the talks won't happen and if they do nothing will come of it. Current sanctions, now fully supported by China, are hurting.

The obvious venue for any meeting would be a neutral country, therefore they'd both travel.
