I have bitten the bullet and started looking into the history of my house. My question is this, i would like to write a report, but would appreciate ideas on how to set this out.

"Action" with paperwork is what I need to do!

I have loads of printouts of census returns for my ancestors covering
London, Birmingham, Norfolk and Hampshire.

It is interesting following their journeys up and down the country!

Must do paperwork and put into folders"

I hope you're staying warm Elizabeth? I'm not venturing out but Dan is about to as he needs to get to the post office and will bring supplies back with him :-) It's just started snowing again here.

I have box files with lots of paperwork and really do need to write it all up as a history so the "when to stop researching and start writing. " is very pertinent lol. It's the researching I enjoy most.

I loved reading 'A Commoner's Cottage 'by Frances Mountford, about the 13 families who had lived in a particular dwelling in Surrey.

What made it more attractive were the little comments about village events through the ages and illustrations of wild flowers to be found nearby in different seasons.

I borrowed it from the library some time ago, but was delighted to find a copy in a boot fair last summer. A special buy, which I never tire looking at.

Gwyn..........I am always looking in the local charity shops for family research books.

However, family folk, have said enough! Not enough room for more books.

However, there are flags, football stuff, and plenty of other "junk"!

So I am entitled to my books.

I will look out for the book you have recommended.

Gwyn I too will look out for that book, it sounds like my kind of book :-) Houses and flowers are always of interest to me. I find the garden books of Beverley Nichols also soothing to read when I'm stressed, " Down the garden path" is one of my favourites.
