I'm going to a big Tesco tomorrow, Ann - hence the reluctance to go to town today :-D

JoyLouise, microwave blew up a couple of months ago - I used it so rarely, and rather like the space it's removal left, that I haven't bothered getting another one!

Sharron, I was going to try evaporated milk, but didn't have any :-(
I'm sure we had evaporated milk in 'Camp' coffee when I was young.

Kathleen, it's definitely addictive. I have 4 condensed milk encrusted spoons - you can't lick it all off......
....and less condensed milk in the tin than before.......

Edit: and as you reminded me, that's 5 spoons now :-S

We had to go to B&Q this morning for some bits for the plumbing jobs OH is doing. So we stopped at the town Tesco Extra for coffee, fruit and branston chutney which we forgot to get last week. We didn't need milk so didn't look at what they had. Did notice milk in people's trollies though. So, if you know anyone going to tesco Maggie????

Or zap the bread for around four or five seconds?

Be careful not to over-zap though as it goes from soft to hard very quickly.

One place I worked, we always made the coffee with condensed milk.

My mother would make coffee with evaporated milk but I think her taste buds were so thickly encased in nicotine that she probably could taste very little anyway.

I used to love condensed milk but I haven't had it for years. I used to eat it straight from the tin, yum!

I'm sure if you put enough condensed milk on the stale bread it will soften it up nicely.

Needs must I suppose but I'm not a condensed milk person...that said it's been years since I tried it and I would if I had no choice. Enjoy!

As a rule, I have milk & sugar in my tea, and cream & sugar in my coffee.
I have very little milk left - and need that for my tea (providing it doesn't go off), and no cream left.

The buses are running - but should I spend £2.80 on bus fares, only to find no dairy products in the 2 shops in town that may sell them?
No.

So, this morning, I opened one of the cans of condensed milk in my cupboard - I thought one was evaporated milk, but this was not to be - the condensed milk was bought because, occasionally, I have a lusting for a condensed milk sandwich - but, so far, I have avoided actually making one.

Anyway, I opened the condensed milk - and poured it in my (sugarless) coffee.
It's not bad!
Different - but not bad :-D

My bread is a little stale for a decent condensed milk sandwich - I may have to wait until tomorrow afternoon, to give the lorries a chance to make a delivery.
