Why, especially on Facebook, do people feel compelled to list all the presents etc they were given for Mothers’s Day? And when did the gifts get so elaborate instead of a card and small bunch of flowers?

Apart from the fact that some may be telling porkies, anyone who wastes time doing that needs to get a life.

Unbelievable idiots.

It becomes to appear like a competition.

I agree. Like all things Mothers Day has become commercialised, and just an exercise in one upmanship. Years ago CHILDREN made their mother's a card and picked or bought a small bunch of flowers just to show their love and appreciation. Now of course it's all about how much everything costs, and who buys the biggest and most expensive! - sad really!

My mum used to love to be given a little bunch of violets she would not have understood the currant custom of expensive gifts.

I detest Mother's Day!
It's in March, the weather is usually cold/wet/windy, it's too commercialised, and pubs are full.
Even if you get into a pub/restaurant, where the food on the whole is okay, on Mother's Day is usually awful - like on the run up to Christmas.

I insist we celebrate 'our' day (I have2 daughters) in late April at the earliest - and nowhere near Easter! :-(

However, I did receive a card and phone call rom one, and a card, quick visit, bottle of plonk and a vegetable lasagne from the other. :-D

Mind you, her card was plain white, with the following written in black:
" I choose my Mother's Day
Cards like I choose
my nursing homes.

Low cost and in a hurry.

:-D :-D :-D :-D

Our Mother's Day is later ........... not even sure when, I think June

OH NEVER gives me anything ............ he says "you're not my mother' :-D

Daughter used to give me little homemade gifts and cards, now just a card.

TV ads here suggest buying diamond jewellry, expensive cars, expensive holidays to your mother :-0 :-P

At least, the ads have stopped suggesting fur coats :-D

All I wanted was all my children in the same country for Mothers Day....fat chance.

I don't want cards or gifts, a phone call or message from overseas is enough to make my day :-D

Our neighbour sends her daughter a card on behalf of her granddaughter.
The granddaughter is old enough to make & write one herself :-S

As for posting/boasting on FB, perhaps the mother’s are trying to prove either how much they’re loved or how financially successful their children are?
